Some of the more common causes of hair loss in a woman include: starting or stopping the birth control pill; postpartum depression; pre and early post menopausal periods.
Other causes can include:
Physical stress: surgery, illness, anemia, rapid weight change;
Emotional stress;
Certain prescription medications;
A poor diet & nutrient deficiencies;
Illness;
Ringworm;
Certain skin diseases;
Styling treatments;
Immune disorders.
Here are some things that do not lead to hair loss in a woman, even though many are convinced they do:
Frequent shampooing;
Hats, wigs etc.;
Perms, colors and other cosmetic treatments;
Dandruff;
Age (hair loss can occur at any age, even pre-teen).
Hair loss can be due to medication, radiation treatment, chemotherapy or other illnesses.
If none of these apply, you’re describing typical male pattern baldness, and unfortunately, it’s hereditary – from the mother’s side, actually.
